BEWARE: MY CHILD IS ONLINE
I recently watched a movie called “Trust” it was a very realistic movie about a 14 year old girl that meets an apparently 16 year old boy through an online dating site. She initially was texting him and on her birthday, her parents felt they trusted her enough to give her, her own laptop. This gave her total liberty to be in contact with this guy, who turned out to be a middle aged pedophile, who eventually meets up with her and sexually assaults her, one of many young girls. This event turns this family upside down.
This movie really caught my attention, as a mother it was a warning sign to how cruel and wicked this world can be. It’s amazing how technology and its advances are used by the devil to cause harm. They are supposed to facilitate our lives and be used as something good. But, the devil is very astute and uses every means to destroy families, homes, and people in general. Now a days, the internet has opened doors that could’ve never been opened before.
Children are easily exposed at a very young age to things we can’t even imagine! This is why we must use our faith with intelligence in order to avoid certain catastrophic situations. The internet can be a very dangerous tool in the hands of an adolescent. Many discover things out of curiosity, and some are in search of something that will give them a certain satisfaction. Many teens nowadays, are even being bullied through the internet. It is very important to always watch your children when they are surfing the web. Do not be afraid to set limits, to control how long they are online for.
Young people and children are very easily influenced. If they find someone that “understands them” or makes them feel “special” they usually give themselves completely, in trusting that person. As a mother, it’s very important for us to be well aware of whom our children talk to, chat with, what websites their visiting. It’s very important to take time to do this, so you won’t regret it later on.
Even though they may think we are invading their privacy or being over protective, or some will even say and do hurtful things. But, I rather disappoint my child then have them face a similar situation. I rather suffer those consequences then lament over some kind of horrible situation. The bible says: “He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” (Proverbs 13:24)
Mothers, be wise, prevent situations before they happened. Be armed with intelligent faith and if you have not joined us yet in this chain of prayer for our children, come, join us. Together let us pray for the safety of our children and family. Let us use this weapon God has given us to undo the works of the devil, to impede any evil or disasters to touch our children. Prayer works, it is like a barrier that surrounds our children against evil, but the moment we stop, we give up, this barrier falls down. Don’t wait another day, put God first in your life and place your children in His hands.
